Al Furokha

Al Furokha is an authentic element of traditional Emirati attire. It is a hand braided tassel made from »Hadoob« threads that hangs from the neckline of the kandura, symbolising identity and cultural pride. Traditionally made from wool, it is now crafted using cotton or silk threads in various colours according to personal taste.

The Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council has revived this heritage craft by launching more than 20 new) Furokha( designs, using innovative knotting and weaving techniques tailored to contemporary fashion markets. The designs were developed by artisans from the Bidwa Social Development Programme, inspired by traditional Emirati craftsmanship and macramé art, and produced using materials such as cotton, zari, and nylon, with customisation options available through Irthi’s Virtual Platform.
